About KNOTS
The goal of KNOTS was to establish innovative teaching methodologies and a transdisciplinary knowledge network in Southeast Asia.
KNOTS (Knowledge Networks of Transdisciplinary Studies) focuses on contemporary development challenges in Southeast Asia, in which transdisciplinary research approaches offer novel insights and innovative solutions. We focused in particular on:
Environmental degradation
Migration
Social inequality
The project members jointly developed curricula and teaching/ learning materials around the topic of transdisciplinarity, which have been integrated into the partner universities’ teaching programs. Three summer schools and field trips were organized in Vietnam and Thailand over the duration of the project to pilot and refine these materials. Stakeholder workshops, further training events as well as a final conference in 2019 further contributed to the development of the final teaching manual.
The three-year project was initiated in October 2016, and is a collaboration between seven universities in Europe, Thailand and Vietnam: University of Vienna (Austria), which is also the project coordinator; Charles University (Czech Republik); University of Bonn (Germany); Chulalongkorn University and Chiang Mai University (Thailand); and Ho Chi Minh City Open University, Southern Institute of Social Sciences, and Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (Vietnam).
The project was funded by the European Commission’s ERASMUS+ programme.
