Train the Trainer (TTT) Workshop:
An Introduction to Transdisciplinary Research Methods
Event Objectives
- To increase the understanding of transdisciplinarity as a specific approach of knowledge production
- To co-develop how to teach transdisciplinary methods in the context of Thailand and Vietnam (develop teaching materials and methods)
- To catalyze discussion about future directions on teaching and research in transdisciplinary methods (including M&E of the pilot training and provide feedback)
OutPut
- Each participant has read a core set of readings and listened to lectures about transdisciplinary research, and critically discussed them
- Each participant has produced a two-day curriculum (objectives; activities; readings; PPTs) built from the TTT curriculum, adapted to the specific needs of their institute
- TTT trainers receive feedback (both during the workshop and following the Trainers own training) on how to iterate the TTT workshop
Approach and methods for the TTT
The general approach towards the TTT workshop includes:
- Input from TTTs, and active participation and input from the participating Trainers in developing the transdisciplinary curriculums to be taught in the KNOTS network universities
- “Critical friends” as a means of providing feedback to each other
The TTT workshop method will be a combination of the following approaches.
- Short lectures
- Individual reading (followed by discussion)
- Individual work on curriculum preparation
- Seminar discussion
- Small group discussion
- Trainer practical (and feedback)
- The workshop also covered the three themes of KNOTS: environment; migration; and social inequality.
